The initial challenge

So for a while now I have been feeling that my literary knowledge is rather one-dimensional, and while I am well-versed in the complete works of Grisham, Brookmyre and Crichton, I am worryingly at a loss when it comes to books that are regarded as ones to read before you die!

The challenge then is a very simply one... in order to improve my literary knowledge I am going to read some books!

After looking at what seemed like a thousand different "top-100" lists, I decided that firstly, 100 books was really not achievable for me to read in a year, while also trying to hold down a full-time job; and secondly, that they were all a bit rubbish and insisted that I read Lord of the Rings, which I am really not in favour of!!

Therefore my own list has been compiled (with the help/hindrance of a few friends) and I am ready with my own top-50 books to read in a year!
