I was quite eager to read a Hornblower book because I love stories that are set during the Napoleonic period, and in particular I love both the politics and the way of fighting in that period.
Unfortunately this book was a little too technical for my liking. I am someone who can tell the difference between port and starboard, bow and stern... but when it comes to mainstays and mizzens I am completely at a loss. Reading this book requires an in depth knowledge of nautical terminology that I am sadly missing.
I love swash-buckling tales and I am always a sucker for a sequel (or indeed a series!) but most of this book just went straight over my head, and as such I didn't enjoy it as much as I could or should of.
